Process for firmly uniting synthetic rubber-like products with surfaces of metals, glass, porcelain or the like non-rubber substances
Abstract
Abstract Synthetic rubber-like substances, or products containing such substances such as a mixture of polymers of butadiene and polyvinyl compounds, are united to the surfaces of metals, e.g. iron, glass, porcelain or the like non-rubber substances by using as bonding media the products of the treatment of rubber or of halogenated butadienes or homologues thereof, preferably highly polymerized, with halogens. Bonding media specified are the products of the chlorination of 2 chlor 1-3 butadiene or of polymerized 2 chlor 1-3 butadiene. The bonding media may be applied to one or both surfaces in plastic form or in the form of a solution, e.g. in chlorobenzene or carbon tetrachloride; if a solution is used, the coatings are preferably allowed to dry before the surfaces are united. If the rubber-like substance has been previously vulcanized the surface thereof and/or the coating of bonding medium applied to the surface to which it is to be united is preferably treated with chlorinating substances such as sulphuryl chloride and/or by roughening.
