Electric calculating apparatus, embodying potentiometric elements
Abstract
Abstract 476,831. Calculating - apparatus. GRANAT, E., and COMPAGNIE DES FORGES ET ACIERIES DE LA MARINE ET D'HOMECOURT. Sept. 7, 1936, No. 24383. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1935. [Class 106 (i)] Potentiometrical calculating - apparatus for giving an output proportional to products and quotients, for example as required in sighting apparatus, comprises a fixed resister connected to an input circuit at its ends and to an output circuit between one end and a sliding contact, together with a compensating rheostat in series or parallel with said resister, the variable contacts being mechanically coupled so that a constant overall resistance is obtained for all positions of the coupled contacts. A potentiometer resistance 1 is connected in series or parallel with a variable resistance 2, and the two sliding contacts 6, 9 are mechanically connected, the potentiometric resistance being connected at its fixed ends 7, 8 to an input at 3, 4 and its slider 6 to an output 5. The resistances may be in circular form and may comprise sections having different resistivities or lengths. Resistance units as above for giving an output current proportional to x,y./z sin t, sin u comprise the units 13, 14 ; 17, 18 ; 19, 20; 23, 24; and 25, producing respectively currents proportional to the variables named. Specification 462,830 is referred to.
