Improved process for making hollow bodies
Abstract
Abstract Pipes, tubes, and other profiled hollow bodies which may be used as substitutes for porcelain, earthenware or quarts vessels are prepared by winding skins, films or webs made from compositions containing polyvinyl chloride in a solvent-free state under tension over heated rollers onto a winding core and welding together. Pores, bubbles and air occlusions may be removed by treatment of the wound body in hot water under pressure. Suitable compositions include mixtures of polyvinyl chloride with polyacrylic acid esters, or polyvinyl acetate which may be subsequently halogenated, or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride with or without the addition of plasticizers such as triphenyl phosphate, lubricating agents such as octadecyl alcohol or wool fat alcohols and fillers such as titanium white, zinc white, lithopone, cellulose, artificial or natural resins, caoutchouc or hydrocaoutchouc. In an example, an interpolymer of vinyl chloride and acrylic acid methyl ester is made into a film and then wound into tubes. Specification 429,480 is referred to.
