Improvements in coin-freed automatic delivery machines
Abstract
Abstract 432,549. Coin-freed article-delivery apparatus. HARRIS, S., 99, Manor Road, Wallasey, Cheshire. Oct. 25, 1933, No. 29523. [Class 27] Articles stored in piles ; storage.-The topmost articles G<1>, Fig. 2, of a number of piles of articles G are delivered in succession to a shoot 12 and tray 13, the piles being stored in containers C equally spaced round a drum B which is rotated step-by-step to bring each pile in succession into alignment with the shoot 12. The piles are supported by hollow radial arms 10 extending from a base plate F which has threaded bosses 9 engaging vertical screws E. A wheel 8 on the bottom of the drum meshes with wheels 7 on the screws, so that the screws are rotated by the rotation of the drum to cause the plate F to move upwards and bring the top articles G<1> in turn into position for delivery. Instead of two screws geared to the drum, a single central screw fixed in the drum may be used. The drum is rotated by a pawl 16, Fig. 8, on an arm M engaging pins P on the drum, the arm M being carried by a vertical spindle 5 actuated by a hand lever K. Normally the lever K is locked in the position shown in chain lines in Fig. 8 by any known coin-freed mechanism. After insertion of a coin, it is rocked in a clockwise direction to rotate the drum through one step, and then returned to its initial position to deliver an article. The drum is positioned after each actuation by a spring-pressed vertical rod S engaging holes in the top of the drum and released to allow rotation by a cam rod T carried by a sliding frame Q. The frame Q is connected by a link 20 to the arm M and carries rods 21 sliding in brackets 22. A frame 23 carrying a pusher plate R to eject the top article G' slides on the rods 21 and is connected to the frame Q by a spring 28 always in tension. When the frame Q moves to the right in Fig. 8, a pawl 29 thereon pushes the slide 23 with it, until an inclined end on the pawl 29 meets a stop 34 which raises the pawl so that the slide 23 and pusher R are returned to their initial position by the spring 28 to allow the next column of articles to be moved into alignment with the shoot 12. Refrigerating.-The apparatus described is for the delivery of cartons, of ice-cream, Solid carbon di-oxide is stored in the hollow centre D of the drum and carbon di-oxide gas passes by flexible tubes H and the hollow radial arms 10 into the containers C which are corrugated longitudinally. The gas under pressure passes up the grooves in the containers to outlets at the top and maintains the ice-cream at a low temperature. The casing A of the apparatus is fitted with an inner cylindrical wall 14, the space between being packed with suitable insulating material. The slide 23 carries a stopper 45 which closes the opening to the shoot 12 except when a carton is being delivered.
