Abstract
Abstract 431,672. Electromedical appliances. HIRSCHLAND, L., 5, Bismarckplatz, Wiesbaden, and SCHMIDT, G., 14, Am Rosengarten, Mainz, both in Germany. March 12, 1935, Nos. 7613 and 7614. Convention dates, March 13, 1934 and June 6, 1934. [Class 81 (ii)] Condenser electrodes for short-wave and ultra shortwave therapy are characterised by the provision of a dielectric layer c of mouldable non-elastic substance retaining the shape imparted to it; preferably a substance mouldable on warming such as paraffin wax is employed. The dielectric layer is mounted upon a metal plate connected to a conducting rod b or upon a layer d of material having a higher dielectric constant such as hard rubber or artificial resin, the layer d being covered by a metallic layer e, made of foil or produced by spraying. In use the electrodes are stored in a heated enclosure, or on heated plates of corresponding shape, and are moulded to the part to be treated before application thereto ; the moulding may include the production of a cavity c<1> when boils or the like are to be treated. In a further modification the mouldable layer is mounted on a glass container enclosing a metal plate, movable towards and away from the body, to adjust the capacity of the electrode, by a stem passing through the container cover.
