Improvements in or relating to means for measuring yarns during unwinding and rewinding thereof

Abstract 428,076. Measuring stop - motions. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, and FULTON, S. M., c/o British Celanese, Ltd., Spondon, near Derby. Nov. 7, 1933, No. 30924. [Class 120 (ii)] Apparatus for unwinding a predetermined amount of yarn from bobbins having a substantially constant amount of yarn in each layer, comprises a guide traversed by the yarn and means driven by the guide to actuate a stop motion after a predetermined number of traverses. The yarn 12, Fig. 1, being unwound traverses the guide 13 pivoted at 17, whereby two pawls 18, 19 rotate the ratchet wheel 20, gears 24, 25 and the notched disc 27. A weighted lever 30, Fig. 3, pivoted at 31 has a projection 32 adapted to rest on the periphery of the disc 27. After one revolution of the disc 27, the projection 32 drops into the notch, the lever 30 rotates and the wire 35 swings into the path of the abutment 36 on the traverse rod 37 of the winding up apparatus. The next movement of the traverse rod pushes the wire 35 against the latch 38 and so moves the pivoted lever 39, withdrawing the latch 41 from the lever 42 secured to the usual starting and stopping rod 43, whereby the machine is stopped. To prevent tripping of the stop mechanism when recommencing, before the projection 32 has ridden out of the notch in the disc 27, a wire 45 interposes itself between the wire 35 and the abutment 36; as winding proceeds, the wire 45 is withdrawn.
