Improvements in or relating to electric condensers of the variable capacity type
Abstract
Abstract 425,329. Condensers. SULLIVAN, Ltd., H. W., 72, Leo Street, Peckham, and GRIFFITHS, W. H. F., 220, Court Road, Eltham, both in London. Nov. 27, 1933, No. 33128. [Class 38 (ii)] Some or all of the plates of one system together with some or all of the plates of an interleaving system in a variable condenser are differently shaped so that the number of plates of opposite systems which are interleaved varies throughout the working movement of the condenser, the capacity being varied according to some definite law, other than linear. In the example, the fixed plates 11 are of ordinary semicircular shape. The moving plates 1-10 are shown in minimum capacity position. On rotation plate 1 is interleaved as far as the forward outer edge before plate 2 starts to enter and similarly for the succeeding plates, the inner commencing point of the leading edge of each plate being on the same radius as the outer point of the leading edge of the preceding plate. References are given in the Specification to mathematical data for calculating the shape of the edges, for smooth continuity of capacity change according to any desired law. To obviate the necessity for very narrow plates as at 9, 10, the edges of the fixed plates between which they enter may be backed off.
