Abstract
Abstract 397,377. Wells. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, U.S.A. Jan. 21, 1933, Nos. 2065 and 2066. Convention dates, Jan. 30, 1932, and May 2, 1932. [Class 85.] In an oil or gas well with free flow or gas-lift, a flow-restricting device is arranged in the well, the opening in the device being controlled by moving tubing in a rectilinear path from the top of the well, the upper end of the tubing telescoping in the inlet end of a flow line. In Fig. 1 a valve head 10, with a cone tip 12 and flow apertures 11, is fixed at a desired point in the well and is secured to a tube 17 ; a sleeve 13 moves within the tube 17 and has an annular shoulder 14 co-operating with the head 10 to cut off or vary the flow, a skirt 16 depending from the sleeve 13. This sleeve is secured to tubing 20 held against rotation by a spline 23a and provided with a fixed flange 26 engaged by a divided, threaded member 28 which is raised or lowered by a right and left-hand threaded nut 31 to adjust the sleeve 13. Above the well is a further flow restricting means 34 as described in Specification 378,282. In Fig. 8 the flow adjustment is effected by a piston 26a secured to the tubing 18a, the adjustment being effected by pumping fluid from a container through pipe 36a to below the piston or by allowing the fluid to return to the container through pipe 40a. A gauge on the container, or indicating means 45a, 47a shows the position of the piston. The tubing 18a is held after adjustment by wedge slips 16a controlled by a handle 12a.
