Abstract
Abstract 388,859. Pipe &c. joints. HARBISON, T., 20, Ellesmere Road, Stockton Heath, and BAYLISS, G. H., 684, Knutsford Road, Latchford, both in Warrington. Nov. 3, 1931, No. 30383. [Class 99 (i).] The end of a pipe or rod 1 is secured within a coupling sleeve, T-piece &c. 3 by a split metal ring 8 which surrounds and is contracted to grip the pipe by a collar 6, and fluid tightness is effected by a soft-metal &c. packing ring 9 which is disposed between the ring 8 and the end of the coupling member and is compressed on to the pipe at the same time. The coacting surfaces of the collar 6 and ring 8 and of the packing 9 and the ring 8 and sleeve 3 are conical, as shown, and the inner surface of the ring 8 may be serrated, ribbed or otherwise roughened to enable it to grip the pipe more firmly. The end of the ring 8 contacting with the packing 9 may be tapered or undercut. alternatively a tapered or undercut metal ring may be interposed between the said ring and packing. Specifications 4689/90, 17848/95, [both in Class 99, Pipes &c.], and 336,962, [Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for], are referred to.
