Improvements relating to single phase induction motors
Abstract
Abstract 382,209. Induction motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, BALL, R. D. and ROBERTS, L., of Phoenix Works, Bradford, Yorkshire. April 6, 1932, No. 9825. [Class 35.] In a split-phase capacity motor wherein the auxiliary winding remains connected to the supply during normal operation, the capacity is diminished on reaching normal speed by arranging it in seriesconnected sections, one of which is shortcircuited during starting. In the form shown, the switch 5 is closed during starting but is afterwards opened so that the condenser units 3, 4 are in series during normal operation. The main winding 1 may be reversed by the switch 7. A three-terminal condenser may be used, and the unit 4 may have greater capacity than the unit 3. The switch 5 may be speed-responsive, and the sections may comprise more than one condenser. Specification 385,150 is referred to.
