Improvements in or relating to outlet nozzles for the supply of ventilation air
Abstract
Abstract 360,727. Valve accessories and components. FORENEDE JERNSTOBERIER AKTIESELSKAB, 5, Gyldenlovesgade, Copenhagen. Dec. 22, 1930, No. 38513. Convention date, Oct. 13. Grant of Patent opposed. [Class 135.] Closure members, lift ; locking.-A valve in the outlet nozzle of a ventilating duct comprises a cone, pyramid, or the like slidably mounted within the nozzle, contours and proportions being such that the air passage between the inner surface of the nozzle wall and the cone &c. is approximately of uniform cross section over the greater part of its length throughout a considerable range of adjustment from the fully open position. The nozzle comprises a stream-lined inner wall 5 and a spherical outer portion 4 universally mounted in the wall of an air duct. A spider 6 in the nozzle carries a body 21 within which is slidably mounted a stem 20 carrying a handle in the form of a cap 22 and a cone valve member 10. The air supply issues from the duct through the space between the member 10 and the wall 5 and is controlled by sliding the stem 20 in its mounting. In a limiting position the member 10 contacts with the wall 5 at the inlet end of the nozzle and closes the air passage. Within the body 21 is a helical spring 25 bearing at its upper end against a cover 27 screwed into the body and at its lower end against a loose ring 28 resting on balls 24, which are thus pressed between the stem 20 and a wedge-shaped recess 23 in the body 21 ensuring sufficient friction to hold the valve in position against the pressure of the air. In a modification the valve member contacts with the wall 5 at the outlet end of the nozzle and the stem is frictionally held in a slit resilient bush. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the nozzle is shown rigidly mounted in the duct but may be universally mounted and the body 21 and stem 20 are carried by a baffle member 31 mounted by means of supports 32 immediately in front of the nozzle and serving to deflect the issuing air.
