Abstract

Abstract 357,187. Charging and discharging coke ovens. WADE, H., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Koppers Akt.- Ges., H. ; 29, Moltkestrasse, Essen, Germany. ) June 18, 1930, No. 18862. [Class 51 (ii).] Indicators.-The successive discharging and charging operations of a coke-oven plant are recorded on a clock-driven drum by a device associated with the pusher mechanism as it is moved along a battery of ovens. The recording device is actuated by a cable or other flexible means extending alongside the battery of ovens and movable in accordance with the movements of the pusher and/or the leveller into and out of the ovens as well as with the movements of the pusher carriage. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the pusher mechanism comprises a carriage 12 with wheels 13 movable along rails 14 in front of a battery of ovens 11. An endless cable 15 extends between an idler 16 and a driving roller 17 being guided over pulleys 18, 19 and an operating pulley 20. The pulley 20 is not rotated when the mechanism is displaced along the rails so that the movement of the cable is imparted to' the roller 17. This roller is connected by gearing to a bevel wheel 40, Fig. 5, in mesh with a bevel gear 41 on a screwed spindle 42, provided with a squared section 43 and a recording member 44 co-operating with a record strip on a clock-driven drum 45. The records of the movements of the pusher bar 22 and leveller bar 32 are superimposed on the record of the oven numbers by attaching cables 23, 33 to the bars. The cable 23 is given a turn around a guide pulley 24 and passes over guide pulleys 25, 27 to a counterweight 28. The pulley 25 is carried at one end of a counterweighted arm 26 secured to the pulley 20. As the bar 22 is pushed into the oven the slack of cable is taken up by the weight 28 until the point of attachment 21 comes over the pulley 24. As the movement proceeds the weight 28 will rise until a fixed stop is reached and further movement will cause a raising of the arm 26 to rotate the pulley 20 and thereby the cable 15 and roller 17. The cable 33, which is carried in a manner similar to that of the cable 23, passes round a pulley 35 on the other side of the arm 26 and imparts an oscillating movement to the arm 26 as the bar 32 is reciprocated in the oven. In addition to the record of the movement a record of the current required to operate the motor may be produced by connecting the movable element 47 of the circuit ammeter 46 to a link 48 carrying a stylus 49 adapted to produce a straight line record.
