Improvements in or relating to apparatus for automatically delivering and weighing predetermined quantities of material
Abstract
Abstract 334,304. Hughes, J., and Ward, T. O. June 13, 1929. Automatic - feed weighers.-A machine for delivering predetermined weight of granular-material from a hopper to a weighing device is provided with means for compensating for the material in suspension at cut-off such means being withdrawn electrically after a weighment for checking purposes. Material flows from a hopper 1 past a gate 34 into a measuring - chamber 2 normally closed at its lower end by a feedgate 26 pivoted at 27. At the beginning of an operation the feed-gate is opened by manually raising its extension 30. The gate 34 is simultaneously closed by a link 32 connecting the gates, and a projection 35 on the link rocks a contact 37 to effect the energization of a magnet 29 to hold the extension 30 in raised position. The material in the measuring- chamber falls into a receptacle 25 on the pan 3 of a weighing-scale, and is supplemented by a continuous dribble-feed from an auxiliary chamber 43. The dribble-feed continues until the pan sinks under the combined load of the receptacle 25 and the weighted arm 9 of a compensating- lever that normally bears on the pan. As the pan sinks, a projection 18 on a bent arm of the compensating-lever engages a flexible contact 13, thereby de-energizing the magnet 29, allowing the feed-gate to close by gravity, opening the gate 34 to refill the measuring-chamber, and rocking the contact 37 to energize a magnet 12 to raise the weighted arm 9 off the pan. The weighment is subsequently checked by a pointer 6 co-operating with a chart 7. The effect of the compensating- lever may be increased by a spring and may be varied by an adjusting-screw 17 controlling the normal distance between the contact 13 and extension 18. The capacity of the measuring- chamber 2 is adjustedby a screw 22 controlling the position of a partition 20 pivoted at 21. The dribble-feed is rendered visible by a window 46 and is adjustable in volume by a screw 45.
