Improvements in riveting machines
Abstract
Abstract 324,280. Elsner, H. March 8, 1929. Riveting; sets and snaps.-A machine, particularly for riveting trunks and boxes of fibre, wood, cardboard, metal, &c., comprises a riveting tool 15, which is reciprocated by an eccentric or by a crank and connecting-rod, and is provided with a sliding casing 16 carrying spring-centred pivoted arms 17 for holding a rivet supplied automatically to the arms from a distributor 25. The arms have lugs 20, which snap into recesses in the riveting tool to hold the rivet, the arms being opened on the descent of the tool after the work has been threaded on the rivet. The work may be positioned by a spring-pressed pin 31, Fig. 6, which yields under the pressure of the inserted rivet till the end of the pin 31 forms a continuous surface with the riveting die 29. The work rests on a spring-supported member 36 carried by a bracket 28 on the machine frame. A screw adjustment 35 is provided for the die 29. The machine is driven by a one-revolution clutch comprising a longitudinal pin 51, Fig. 8, adapted to engage with recesses in a driven wheel 4 and slidable against the action of a spring 50 to disengage the clutch by a bevelled member 45, which is positively depressed by a lug on an arm 41, Fig. 11, linked to a treadle 37 and tripped by a cam 52 on the member 5.
