Depolarising plate for galvanic cells
Abstract
Abstract 300,640. Siemens & Halske Akt.- Ges., (Assignees of Schenkel, K.). Nov. 17, 1927, [Convention date]. Electrodes; connections to carbons.-A plate comprising a layer of graphite and a layer of depolarizing material is provided with a strengthening layer or ring of impermeable insulating material. Fig. 1 shows a layer of manganese depolarizer D with a layer of graphite G covered with a laver J of talc, paraffin and colophony. The graphite G is provided with a thickened portion H which is left uncovered for contact purposes. The three layers are pressed together and heated. The combined plate may be pressed on to a zinc electrode Z or the latter may be applied to the plate by spraying or by the application of a mixture of zinc dust and binding medium. The zinc electrode may also consist of a layer of zinc formed by spraying. together with a superposed zinc plate. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the insulating layer J covers the sides of the depolarizer and graphite plates D, G, the latter passing through the insulation at a point g. Fig. 2 shows a further modification in which the insulation J is in the form of a ring surrounding the depolarizer D.
