Improvements in the treatment of sewage liquor and like impure liquids
Abstract
Abstract 218,399. O'Shaughnessy, F. R. March 27, 1923. Drawings to Specification. Right to Patent relinquished. Aerating.-The bulk of the solid faecal matters are removed from sewage and the liquid is then aerated in the presence of two to ten per cent of flocculated sludge. The sludge which separates on settlement is aerated by itself before being used in the treatment of further liquid. For this separate treatment the concentration of the sludge should be below 35 per cent for temperatures below 10‹ C. and above 15‹ C., and below 40 per cent for temperatures between 10‹ and 15‹ C., the concentration being measured by the ratio of the volume of the settled matter to the total volume after standing for eighteen hours. Flocculated sludge for the initial treatment is prepared in the usual manner by aeration treatment of sewage from which the solid matters have been removed.
