Abstract
Abstract A surgical clip has a pair of arms (10, 11) which may be crimped together by applying a tensile force to a tang (19) with a jaw (50) of an applicator tool. This tool has a body (56) which abuts against both ends of a bridge portion (12) of the clip so that the tensile force may bend the plastically deformable bridge portion (12) to crimp the arms (10, 11) together. As the bridge portion (12) bends, the points of contact between the bridge portion (12) and the body (56) of the applicator tool move closer together, thereby increasing the tensile force needed to bend further the bridge portion to above the value at which a neck (21) connecting the bridge portion (12) and tang (19) fractures. <IMAGE>

CLAIMS 1.A.surgical clip comprising a plastically deformable body, a tang for deforming the body and a neck connecting the tang to the body, the neck being designed to break upon application of a predetermined tensile force to the tang and the body being deformable by application to the tang of a tensile force less than the predetermined tensile force.
