Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 18
Claim 1
Independent Claim
121 words
A device for draining aqueous humou r from an eye, the device comprising a drainage tube for draining aqueous humour from the anterior chamber of an eye, and a drainage body for distributing drained aqueous humour over a relatively large area, the drainage tube being firmly fixed to the drainage body and opening directly on to a surface of the drainage body, and the drainage body being constituted by a band having a width of at least 5 mm and a length which is sufficient for the band to pass around, and to be sutured to, the sclera of the eye in an equatorial position, wherein the device is provided with a pressure gradient limiting valve having a predetermined opening pressure.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
45 words
A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pressure gradient limiting valve is positioned at that 70 end of the tube which is fixed to the band, the valve constituting the opening through which aqueous humour flows directly to said surface of the band.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
27 words
A device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the pressure gradient limiting valve is constituted by at least one slit formed in the wall of the tube.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
55 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the tube is preformed to follow the arc of a circle, the diameter of which is such that, in use, the free end of the tube is positioned within the anterior chamber of the eye closer to the iris than the cornea.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
17 words
A device as claimed in claim 4, wherein the diameter of said circle is about 30 mm.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
25 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the tube and the band are made of medical grade silicone rubber.
Claim 8
Independent Claim
27 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, 85 wherein the tube and the band are made of a hydrogel such as hydroxyethyimethacrylate.
Claim 9
Independent Claim
27 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the band has a width lying in the range from 9 to 12 mm.
Claim 10
Independent Claim
30 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the pressure gradient limiting valve has an opening pressure of from 4 to 20 mm of mercury.
Claim 11
Independent Claim
22 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein the tube is fused or glued to the band.
Claim 12
Independent Claim
27 words
A device as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10, wherein the tube extends beyond the band, the end of the extended portion being closed.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
66 words
A device as claimed in claim 11, further comprising an additional drainage body and an additional tube, one end of the additional tube being connectible to the extension of the first-mentioned tube, after said closed end thereof has been opened, the other end of the additional tube being fixed to the additional drainage body and opening directly on to a surface of the additional drainage body.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
20 words
A device as claimed in claim 12, wherein an additional pressure gradient limiting valve is provided in the additional tube.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
54 words
An aqueous humour drainage device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as illustrated by, Figs. 1 to 3 or Figs. 4 to 8 of the accompanying drawings. Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect:New or textually amended claims have been filed as fo I I ows:- -
Claim 16
Independent Claim
120 words
A device for draining aqueous humour from an eye, the device comprising a drainage tube for draining aqueous humour from the anterior chamber of an eye, and a drainage body for distributing drained aqueous humour over a relatively large area, the drainage tube being firmly fixed to the drainage body and opening directly on to a surface of the drainage body, and the drainage body being constituted by a band having a width of at least 5 mm and a length which is sufficient for the band to pass over, and to be sutured to, the sclera of the eye in an equatorial position, wherein the device is provided with a pressure gradient limiting valve having a predetermined opening pressure.
Claim 17
Independent Claim
