Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 20
Claim 1
Independent Claim 192 words
A connector, for use with respiratory 65 apparatus, the connecto ' r comprising a housing having: a first opening. for providing communication between the interior of an endotracheal tube and the interior of the housing; a second opening for receiving an aspiration line; and a third opening for connecting the housing to a supply line for supplying respiratory gas to the connector; wherein the second opening comprises a passageway, extending between the exterior and the interior of the housing, having an inlet in a region of the passageway adjacent the exterior of the housing, the inlet being covered by a first sealing member, connected to a region of the housing and rotatable about that region to open the inlet, and an outlet in a region of the passageway adjacent the interior of the housing, the outlet being cov ered by a second sealing member, held in a position in which the outlet is closed, under the action of resilient means, and being displaceable against the action of said resilient means to open the outlet, thereby allowing the aspiration line to pass through the second opening when the inlet and outlet are open.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 192 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
A connector as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the housing comprises a first component defining the first and third openings, and a second component, defining the second opening, and being detachably connected to the first component.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 66 words
A connector according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the second sealing member is inclined to the longitudinal axis of the housing when that member is in the closed position, and wherein a space adapted to receive the second sealing 100 member is provided in the housing, the first sealing member being displaceable into this space when the aspiration line is inserted into the second opening.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
A connector according to any preceding 105 claim, wherein the second sealing member has a periphery defining a segment of a circle.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 39 words
A connector according to any preceding claim, wherein the first opening is provided with a limiting edge which is of a width which is equal to or greater than the th ickness of the wall of the endotracheal tube.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 19 words
6 A connector as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the limiting edge slopes towards the interior of the housing.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
A connector according to any preceding claim, wherein a rubber elastic seal is provided on a supporting seat of the first sealing member.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 17 words
A connector as claimed in Claim 7 when dependent on Claim 4, wherein the seal is annular.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 15 words
A connector as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said resilient.means comprises a spring. 70
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 43 words
A connector according to any preceding claim, wherein the first sealing member is made of a plastics material and is provided with an axis member, the supporting ends of which can be pressed into, and released from, suitably adapted recesses in the housing.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 25 words
A connector according to any preceding claim, wherein the second sealing member can be fixed in the closed position and in the open position. 80
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 21 words
A connector substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as shown in, Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 21 words
A connector substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as shown in, Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 43 words
A respiratory apparatus comprising: a connector as claimed in any preceding claim; an aspiration line; and a sleeve for receiving the aspiration line, and for insertion into the second opening; wherein the sleeve and the aspiration line are encased in removable, protective covers.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 37 words
A respiratory apparatus according to,Claim 13, wherein the proximal end of the aspiration line has a connection piece, for connection with a negative pressure aspiration tube, which connection piece is encased in a removable, protective cover. 95
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 19 words
A respfratory apparatus as claimed in Claim 13 or 14, wherein said covers are made of a plastics material.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 61 words
A respiratory apparatus according to any of Claims 13 to 15, wherein the covers for the sleeve and the aspiration line are joined together in the region of the proximal end of the sleeve; and the covers for the aspiration line and the connection piece are joined together in the region at which the connection piece and the aspiration line meet.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 47 words
A respiratory apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as shown in, the accompanying drawings. Printed for Her Majesty's Stationery Office by the courier Press, Leamington Spa, 1984. Published by the Patent Office, 25 Southampton Buildings, London, WC2A lAY, from which copies may be obtained.
