Improvements relating to Apparatus for Treating or Dressing Wounds.
Abstract
Abstract 23,818. Murphy, J. B. Dec. 9. Wound-closing appliances; retractors and like instruments.-Appliances for closing wounds comprise thin narrow strips a of steel, german silver, &c. laid along the edges of the cut and gripping the flesh by means of inclined pins b passing through the strips a and secured therein by soldering or otherwise. The strips on either side of the wound are connected together by lacing attached to the projecting portions of the pins. For stretching the wound before applying the strips, appliances, consisting of strips of metal formed with finger-loops c and projecting pins e, may be used. Hinged flaps d attached to the loops c may be pressed down upon the strips a to hold these in position during the lacing operation. In modified forms, the outwardly projecting ends of the pins b may be formed as hooks or otherwise, or the pins may project only on the underside of the strips a, and the strips may be formed with integral hook-shaped projections to take the lacing.
