Improvements in and relating to Handlebars of Velocipedes and the like.
Abstract
Abstract 14,042. Pugh, J. V., and Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd. July 2. Handles; handle-bars.-A metallic handle-bar for cycles is provided with enlargements to form hand-grips for the rider, the whole bar with the enlargements, or the enlargements only, being covered with celluloid. The end a of a tubular metal handle-bar may be enlarged in diameter by any suitable method, and a tube b of celluloid is pushed over each half of the handle-bar and shrunk on. At the ends of the handle-bar the celluloid tubing may be turned inside the metal tubing, as shown at d, to form a smooth end. According to a modification, the enlargements are made by cutting a number of slits s in the handle-bar tube and expanding the part of the tube thus slit, either before or after the celluloid is applied. In another modification, the enlargements are formed by slitting short lengths of tube, which are passed over and secured to the ends of the handle-bar.
