Improvements in the Method of Soldering Aluminium.
Abstract
Abstract 5055. Nielsen, A. March 9, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Soldering.-Aluminium is prepared for soldering by first cleaning and then etching by placing it in an electrolyte connected to the positive pole of a battery. It is then electro-deposited with nickel, and, after further cleaning, with tin ; soldering is then effected in the ordinary manner. The nickel solution preferably consists of 4 parts by weight of nickel salt, 2 parts of spirit of ammonia, 20 parts of citric acid, and 100 parts of distilled water. The tin solution consists of 20 parts by weight of chloride of tin, 2 parts of sodium pyrophosphate, and 100 parts of distilled water. The cleaning may be done by first treating with sulphuric acid, then washing in water, next with a ten per cent solution of sodium lye, and finally again with water. The process is especially applicable to dentistry.
