Abstract
Abstract 26,119. Fraenkel, M. Nov. 26. Bougies; dilators; obstetric and uterine appliances rectal appliances.-In apparatus for dilating cavities in the human body or in animals, for example for treating piles, or for dilating the urethral passage, or for obstetric and like purposes, an elastic body is arranged in such a manner that by decreasing its length its diameter is increased. Fig. 2 shows a section of a rectal or uterine dilator with the expansible part dilated. The rubber piece f is compressed between the tubular part c and the conical head a carried on the rod b, by turning the fly-nut e. The parts d, g serve to hold the instrument in position. Fig. 4 shows a dilator in which two expansible parts f, f<1> (shown undilated), separated by a ring i, are mounted between conical pieces k, k<1>. Fig. 7 shows a relatively short instrument in which the expansible parts f, f are dilated by turning the nut e by means of a key v, Fig. 8, mounted in a, casing l, which is provided with bayonet-slots to engage pins p on the part c, Fig. 7.
