Abstract

Abstract 15,574. PÚronne, G., and Humbert, E. Aug. 27, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Void. [Published under Patents &c. Act, 1907.] Carbonizing fibres, rags, and fabrics.-A series of drying or carbonizing chambers set side by side communicate individually with two conduits which lead to the opposite sides of an aspirator such as a fan, one of the c o nd u i t communicating therewith through a heater. A continuous current of air gradually increasing in moistness and temperatuie thus passes through the apparatus, sufficient outlets being provided to relieve the pressure. In the apparatus shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the aspirator c drives air through a conduit f formed at the back of the chambers a. The air passes through openings h into channels g formed in the end and partition walls of the chambers and leading into the chambers. Below the conduit f is a conduit e, into which the air passes from the chambers through like channels g, and openings k, this air passing through the heater d, Fig. 2, and the aspirator. At the top and bottom respectively, the channels g have rectangular openings i, l into the chambers a; and these channels have also par titions j, m for the diffusion of air. The two channels g of each partition wall open into the chambers on opposite sides. The openings of the channels are adjusted by flap valves n on vertical axes which may be made to bear against cheeks on the walls of the chambers by means of rods q connected to the valves by links and passing through the chamber walls. The rods q are actuated by handles carried by brackets at. the front of the chambers, and the rods and valves when adjusted are secured by slots t and screws. The goods may be carried to and from the chambers by means of rails laid down in front of the doors b of the chambers. Thermometers are provided in the chambers. In the form of apparatus shown in Fig. 7, the conduits e, f are connected with the bottom and top of the chambers and with the heater and aspirator arranged below them.
