Improvements in and in connection with Insulators for Telegraph, Telephone and like Wires
Abstract
Abstract 13,044. Webb, F. R. June 5. Insulators particularly for telephone, telegraph, and like wires, and of the type provided with a transverse groove for the wire, are formed with a central or approximately central recess which extends below the bottom of the groove and forms part of, or serves as a receptacle for a device which grips the conductor. The gripping - device holds the conductor on a level with the bottom of the groove so as to avoid bending the conductor, and may consist of a forked pin k, Fig. 3, secured in the recess d and provided with a bolt or other device for gripping the conductor c; or as shown in Fig. 1, it may consist of a set-screw o or the like whereby two jaws n, m may be forced together to grip the conductor c. The jaws may have various shapes but are preferably rectangular in cross-section, as shown in Fig. 2, and the prongs on the insulatorstalk e are preferably curved as shown at f. The set-screw may be mounted in the insulator itself, in which case the cover h may be eliminated ; or it may be mounted in the cover, and the jaws or cup m may be replaced by a block of metal or a strip of resilient material.
