Abstract
Abstract 9594. Lake, H. H., [Ingersoll-Rand Co.]. April 24. Undercutting etc.; rock drills.-An electropneumatic channeller, in which the tool piston is operated by reciprocating columns of air from a presser, has two manually-operated valves 14, 19 mounted in the tool cylinder 11, both of which, as shown in Fig. 3, admit of communication between the pipes 5, 4 aod the spaces 9, 8 respectively when the tool piston is to operate in unison with the presser piston. The valve 14 is turned to connect the space 9 with a restricted outlet 17 when it is desired to dislodge the tool after it has become jammed ; the position of the valve 19 as shown, and cushioning occurs owing to the restricted outlet. When is is desired to reduce the blow of the tool, the valve 14 is as shown and the valve 19 is turned to connect the space 8 with a reserve fluid chamber 23. To keep up the pressure in the space 8, which is diminished due to leakage past the front rod 12, the valve 19 is provided with a passage controlled by a spring-actuated valve.
