Improvements in the Manufacture of Glue and Gelatine from Bones.
Abstract
Abstract 13,682. Hilbert, H. June 19. Glue; gelatine.-In extracting glue and gelatine from bones by boiling, a colourless product is obtained by stirring into the liquid containing the bone flour bleaching-agents such as sulphurous acid, sulphites, or bisulphites, with other acids or with other sulphurous or hydrosulphurous compounds, nascent hydrogen, hydrogen peroxide, and the like. The carbon dioxide, which is produced when acids are employed, is led off, and the glue and gelatine gradually extracted by boiling at atmospheric or higher pressure. The residual bone flour is separated off by filtration &c., and, if desired, again subjected to the process.
