An Improved Hose Coupling.
Abstract
Abstract 7967. White, G. W. April 6. Couplings, attaching pipes to; couplings, disconnectible. - A coned sleeve or thimble 1, ridged or plain, is placed inside the end of the hose 2, the extremity 3 of the sleeve being screwed to engage the nut 4 fitting within the usual brass union 5. A collar 7, coned similarly to the sleeve, is slipped over the end of the hose, the washer 8 being inserted between the nut 4 and the collar 7. The nut 4 can be adapted to turn with the female part 5 of the coupling by inserting the pin 6, and then, when the female part is screwed on to the male part 9, the collar 7 and sleeve 1 are moved in opposite directions, thus gripping the hose ; locking-screws are provided, as shown, engaging in recesses. The end of the hose is attached to the male part 9 in a similar manner, except that the nut 4, which acts as a swivel, is dispensed with. The outer coned collar prevents the cutting of the hose end.
