Optical fibre delay line
Abstract
Abstract 1526896 Optical fibre delay system INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 26 May 1977 [3 June 1976] 22280/77 Heading G1A A delay system has an optical fibre 1 of predetermined length, light transmitter E to convert data applied to its input into a modulated light signal injected into fibre 1, which has receiver R at its other end to reconstruct the data in electrical form, a multi-plexer 2 and demulti-plexer 3, both with n channels, connected respectively to the input of E and the output of R, the first n-1 channels of demulti-plexer 3 being connected to the last n-1 channels of multi-plexer 2, so that n independent channels through the fibre are used successively, the data to be delayed being applied to the first channel of multi-plexer 2. Any multi-plexing method can be used. The embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) uses time-division multi-plexing.
