Septal defect closure apparatus
Abstract
Abstract 1509023 Septal defect closure apparatus ALTON OCHSNER MEDICAL FOUNDATION 25 March 1975 12475/75 Heading A5R One or more collapsible umbrella - like closure elements 308 are used for the closure of septal defects in the body, e.g. 'the heart, each element comprising struts 381 mounted radially about a central hub and having material 382 secured to said struts, the element being collapsible so that the struts may lie generally parallel to the hub axis for transport through a catheter assembly to or through the septal hole. The struts 381 are biassed open by a spring ring 397. The hubs of two elements may be locked together by a "snap fastening" to secure them in place. Alternatively, a single closure element may be used which is held in position by a guide wire until the element has been incorporated into the tissue structure. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 12 (not shown), the struts are biassed open by their own resilience and are provided with barbs on their outer ends.
