Abstract 1456008 Portable containers METAL BOX Ltd 7 May 1974 [15 May 1973] 23169/73 Heading B8D An injection moulded plastics end portion 12 of a container adapted to be closed by an end wall 18 is provided with an inclined flexible internal rib 19, the free end 21 of which is inwardly flexed by engagement with an easy-open end closure application of the latter. The end closure may be of metal or plastics. The end portion may be integrally formed with the remainder of the container, as shown, or the end portion may be attached to a metal or plastics body portion, e.g. in the form of a neck. As shown, the end closure 18 is of metal and has a full-open tear-off panel 30 provided with a pull-tab. The arrangement is such that on removal of the panel 30, the flexed rib end 21 springs up into the opening formed and guards a consumer from injury on the metal edge remaining. The rib extends from the juncture of an upper cylindrical wall 13 and an external shoulder forming wall 14. The bottom of the container is provided with an internal stacking ledge 22 such that when two containers are nested with the bottom edge of the inner container engaging the ledge 22 of the outer container, the shoulder 14 of the inner container is supported on the seaming flange 17 of the outer container without contact occuring between the rib of the outer container and the inner container. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the container is of frusto-conical form throughout its length, the shoulder 14 being omitted.
