Abstract
Abstract 1452185 Surgical clip applicator RICHARD WOLF GmbH 13 May 1974 [19 May 1973] 21145/74 Heading A5R A surgical clip applicator for fitting tantalum clips to seal off Fallopian tubes comprises a hollow central viewing tube having forceps jaws mounted on diametrically opposed sides at the distal end, a movable barrel surrounding the viewing tube up to the base of the jaws, and an operating handle at the proximal end whereby operation of the handle causes longitiudinal movement of the outer barrel thereby operating the forceps jaws and an optical system being mounted in the viewing tube to allow close observation of the operation. A cylindrical part 7 is rigidly connected to the distal end of the viewing tube 25 between the viewing tube 25 and the tubular barrel 1 and has diametrically opposed longitudinal grooves to hold the limbs 3a, 4a of the forceps jaws 3, 4 which are rigidly connected to part 7 by a spring ring. The jaws are spring-loaded to open. The handle comprises a scissors-grip 5, the first half 18 of which is connected at the proximal end to an outer sleeve 2 which surrounds the barrel 1 and the second half 19 of which is spring-loaded away from the first half 18 and has a forked end 23 which bears on the barrel 1 and is guided by a longitudinal slot 24 in the outer sleeve 2. The outer sleeve is attached to the viewing tube by means which allow rotation and fixation of the jaws and viewing tube on axis of the viewing tube in various positions relative to the plane through the scissors-grip and barrel.
