Abstract 1430092 Injection devices ARMOUR PHARMACEUTICAL CO LTD 26 July 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 38495/72 Heading A5R An injection device comprises a hollow needle 10 which may be used as a catheter guide and which is secured at its proximal end to a handle 14 by a cylindrical collar 13 fitting tightly about the needle and within a recess 15 in the handle. At its proximal end the needle has an enlargement 12 which is secured between the collar and the bottom of the recess with the lumen of the needle aligned with a bore 16 through the handle. The proximal end of the needle may be enlarged by splaying and is notched. The collar is fitted tightly around the needle adjacent the splayed end and is a tight fit in the recess in the handle. The bore 16 extends axially through the handle to a cylindrical passage 27. Two wings 17 are formed on the handle. The collar and handle are ultrasonically welded together; or thus may be joined by an epoxy resin adhesive. A flexible plastics stilette (22) Fig. 3 (not shown) is provided to pass through the lumen of the needle. The length of the stilette is such that when fully inserted its end coincides with the lip of the needle. The stilette has a tapered nylon plug (23) with a peg (26) which engages with a slot 28 in the outer end of the handle to secure the stilette, the slot being in line with the tip of the needle to indicate its position in use. The collar and handle may be made of nylon.
