Steering control system for a motor vehicle
Abstract
Abstract 1426316 Automatic vehicle steering control. NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd. 27 Feb 1974 [1 March 1973] 8839/74 Heading G3R A motor vehicle is automatically returned to a desired direction of travel following deviation, by a system responsive to the vehicle forward velocity and the transverse velocities of the two ends of the vehicle. Electrical signals representing the sensed velocities are used to compute a control signal for an automatic steering arrangement. As shown, a computing circuit 4 receives signals from velocity sensors 1, 2, 3 which may include Doppler devices, and calculates, using operational amplifiers as integrators, an electrical signal representing a distance by which the vehicle has deviated from a desired direction. This signal is fed through an amplifier 7 to a device 6 which controls an hydraulic steering actuator 60 such that the vehicle will be returned to its original direction. Both the automatic control device 6 and a manual steering control 10 are connected to the vehicle wheels through an over-ride device 8. The steering angle demanded by the driver is sensed 5, and a corresponding signal is fed to a logic circuit 9 together with the signal from the front end lateral speed sensor 1. These signals are compared with preset reference values, and the circuit 9 inhibits the operation of computing circuit 4 by shorting the integrating capacitors unless the demanded steering angle is less than a preset value and the lateral velocity is, at the same time, greater than a preset value. The circuit 4 may additionally include a yaw computing circuit and an optimum correction simulating circuit which has previously been suitably programmed.
