Abstract 1419702 Catheters and optical instruments OXIMETRIX INC 31 Jan 1973 [1 Feb 1972] 14787/75 Divided out of 1419701 Heading A5R This is a divisional application in which the claims and description relate to the catheter apparatus of the parent Specification 1419701 which deals with the oxygen measurement of blood in vivo. The catheter comprises a tube 51 including a septum 53 therein for separating the tube 51 into two conduits 52 and 54, one conduit 54 containing a pair of flexible light guides 9 and 10 and stress-resistant filaments 55 and 58, the other conduit 52 being open at both ends thereof for conducting the liquid therethrough. The conduit 54 containing the light guides is sealed at its distal end and the light guides may be clad with an optically opaque material. The catheter may have an inflatable member which surrounds the wall of the tube 51 at its distal tip and which may be inflated, by fluid under pressure, via the conduit 54 and an aperture in the tube portion that is covered by the inflatable member.
