Abstract 1393068 Biopsy instruments K JAMSHIDI 15 June 1973 [22 June 1972 7 Feb 1973] 28500/73 Heading A5R A biopsy instrument comprises a blade member 12 having a tapered pointed cutting tip 13 and a tissue-receiving recess 20 formed in its side wall spaced from its point 14, and a sleeve 15 slidable on the blade member to cover or uncover the recess, the sleeve having a blade edge 16 which is tapered at an angle substantially equal to that of tip 13. The recess may be provided with hooks to retain the tissue-sample. An elongate tissueobtaining member provided with a hook may be slidable in a longitudinal bore of the blade member to extend into the recess. The blade member may be cylindrical or of rectangular cross-section.
