Abstract
Abstract 1331169 Electronic calculator SCM CORP 20 July 1971 [19 Aug 1970] 34015/71 Heading G4A An electronic calculator has a keyboard 16 with a slidably movable cover 11, a display 18 with a cover 12, both pivoted about fixed point 0, and a power ON/OFF switch 14, such that when keyboard 16 is covered, the display 17 is retracted and invisible (Fig. 1, not shown) and the power switch is OFF and cannot be switched on manually. When cover 11 is moved in the direction shown pins E, F slide in groove 22 and pin F enters aperture 24 of bell crank 23 causing it to rotate anticlockwise about fixed pivot B and thus cause display 17 to rotate clockwise and be visible. A pin D on display 17 displaces a flexible member 28 to cause power microswitch 26 to be turned on and switch 14 to be rotated to the ON position. The switch 14 and microswitch 26 may now be turned off manually. When cover 11 is moved to cover the keyboard, the reverse occurs and pin D is lodged between flexible member 28 and a member 29. In this position switch 14 cannot be switched manually. In another embodiment the cover 12 could be mounted for linear movement into and out of the body of the calculator. The cover 12 has side plates 18 to shade the panel so that the digits appear luminous and it is stated that the calculator is pocket sized.
