Abstract 1318964 Tobacco - smoke filters MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd 13 July 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 37805/70 Heading A2C [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] A cigarette filter comprises the foamed polyamide produced by extruding a heat-softened composition comprising a polyamide and water under pressure as blowing agent through a die into a zone of lower pressure to allow foaming of the composition, the polyamide comprising nylon 6 and the water being injected into the te heat-softened polyamide in an extrusion system to the extent of 5-25% by weight of the composition. The polyamide preferably substantially consists of nylon 6 but the use of blends of polyamides comprising nylon 6 is also envisaged.
