Stopper for a hypodermic syringe
Abstract
Abstract 1318803 Hypodermic syringe PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 20 Aug 1970 [23 Aug 1969] 40176/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division B8] A flexible deformable stopper for attachment to the discharge end of a hypodermic syringe has a diaphragm 9 which may be prestretched before it is punctured, thus reducing the amount of stretching required of the diaphragm before rupture. An annular flange 13 of quadrangular axial cross-section extends around the periphery of the neck 3 of the stopper, and its front and rear sides 25 and 29 are inclined at an angle α to the axis of the stopper. The stopper is inserted in the neck of a syringe, and the flange 13 sandwiched between a flange (59) of the syringe and a flange (67) of a needle holder (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) so that when the flanges (59) and (67) are nipped together by a connecting member (69), the diaphragm 37 is stretched into a taut condition. In a second embodiment of the stopper there is no recess 23 at the joint of the flange 13 and neck 3, but there is a cavity in the flange when it abuts the neck, Fig. 5 (not shown).
