Improvements in or relating to Filling Machines for Pies and the like.

Abstract

Lever - actuated p u m p s ; valveless pumps.-A machine for filling meat pies and the like with gravy or fruit or like juices consists of upright standards 3 having fixed frames 4, 5, a fixed frame 2 carrying a tank 1 to hold the liquid, and two frames 13, 22 vertically movable on the standard by means of toggle mechanism 14, 15, 16 and 23, 24, 25 operated respectively by handles 17, 26. The handles are fixed on shafts 18, 27 having at their other ends cranks 20, 28 which operate two other similar sets of toggles and links connected to the other sides of the frames 13, 22. The frame 22 may be maintained at any desired height by means of the spring catch 30 and curved rack 31, while a pin 32 can be placed in one of the holes of the latter to limit the height to which the frame can be raised. The frame 13 carries bars 12 from which depend a series of pistons 10 which work in tubes 6 mounted on the base of the tank 1. Fine nozzles 7 are screwed to the bottom of the tank. In use, the pies are positioned beneath the nozzles on the table 33, which is carried by the frame 22, and the latter is raised to the position shown in Fig. 5, whereby the nozzles pierce the pies or enter holes previously made therein. The frame 13 is next raised so as to lift the pistons, whereby gravy &c. flows from the tank through openings 9 into the tubes beneath the pistons. The frame 13 is then depressed, and the gravy &c. is forced by the pistons into the pies.
