Press Position Control
Abstract
Abstract 1,190,791. Forging. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 23 June, 1967 [7 April, 1966], No. 15725/66. Heading B3H. A press position control system of the kind described in Specification 1,114,234 is used to control oppositely movable swaging tools with concave or V-shaped working faces, by including swage gap setting means operable before a swaging operation with the swaging tools closed together, for automatically feeding to the tool control means the selected swage gap. A signal representing the position of the moving tools is fed to the main counter 13, as described in Specification 1,114,234. Prior to swaging the selected swage gap is set by switches 12 and an oscillator 16 generates pulses which are fed to counter 13 through AND gate 15 controlled by flip-flop 17. When the count coincides with the selected gap a coincidence unit 14 triggers an AND gate 18 which opens to stop the count. The counter 13 is thus present to provide a false zero setting corresponding to the required swaging gap. Thereafter the desired workpiece size is set on switches 12 and the swaging tools are moved towards each other until counter 13 coincides with switch setting 12.
