One Way Valve Device
Abstract
Abstract 1,167,329. Artificial heart valves. J. WADA. 6 Dec., 1966 [8 Dec., 1965 (2)], No. 54529/66. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F2] An artificial heart valve comprises a base member I with an aperture 2 for securing in the heart, and one or more valve plates 3 each of which is pivotal relative to the base member for opening or closing the aperture 2, the pivot or pivots each being defined by interengaging notches 4, 5 formed in the corresponding valve plate and the base member, respectively, the notches being arranged along the pivotal axis of the valve plate, and the valve plate and/or the base member having a step 6 formed along the pivotal axis of the plate so that, when the valve is closed, the plate closely contacts the base member. The pivotal axis of the valve plate divides it into two unequal portions the larger of which opens in the direction of desired flow of fluid through the valve. Two or three valve plates (Figures 8 to 15) of complementary shape may be provided. Fabric 7, secured around the base member, is sutured to the heart tissue.
