Displacement, determining and indicating.-In apparatus for measuring the depth of liquid in an open or closed tank, or the displacement of a ship, of the type in which gas is forced along a line of piping provided with a pressure gauge or gauges and through a tube with its open end disposed at the depth to be measured, the line of piping is provided with a sight chamber 21, containing liquid and having gas inlet and outlet pipes 25, 3, a regulating valve 20 being provided and the pipe 25 being of hook shape with its open end downwards. In a system for sounding a series of tanks singly or collectively, a single pump may supply gas to a common reservoir, connected to the sight chambers of the lines leading to the tanks.
