Improvements in and relating to instruments for the medical treatment of human and animal tissue using lasers
Abstract
Abstract 1,135,956. Treating eyes. INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. 29 Dec., 1966 [7 Jan., 1966], No. 931/66. Heading A5R. [Also in Divisions AS and H1] In a laser ophthalmoscope the laser output beam and an aiming spot formed by a light source and optical system are brought to a common focus on the target area. Light from source 5 is collimated by lenses 6, 7 and reflected by mirror 8 onto apertured mirror 9 lying into the path of the output beam from ruby laser 3. After being brought to a focus on mirror 11 by lens 10 the light beam is directed onto the patient's eye 13, the aperture 9a appearing on the retina as a dark spot in the illuminated area. The optical axes of the output beam from laser 3 coincides with the light beam from source 5 and the laser beam after passing through aperture 9a, lens 10 and being reflected by mirror 11 is brought into focus on the retina by lens 15 of eye 13. An observation outlet 16 is provided offset from aperture 12 so that no substantial reflection of the laser beam can fall on the observer's eye. Defects in the patient's and/or observer's eyes can be corrected for by correcting lenses 18. Focussing of the laser beam is achieved by adjusting the position of lens 10. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1045868.
