Improvements relating to thermal regenerators
Abstract
Abstract 1,106,660. Thermal regenerators. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 8 Sept., 1965 [11 Sept, 1964], No. 38379/65. Heading F4K. The heat transfer mass of a thermal regenerator comprises a wound strip of tape 1 of low thermal conductivity material (e.g. paper or synthetic plastics material) coated on either or both sides with layers 2 of a material of high specific heat (e.g. lead, mercury, cadmium, or alloys of these metals). One layer 2 may be provided with integral ribs 5 which space adjacent turns of the mass. The strip may have a plurality of perforations between adjacent ribs. Layers 2 may be formed of pellets adhered to the tape and subsequently rolled to the desired thickness and so that there is substantial contact between adjacent pellets.
