Abstract
Abstract 1,078,650. Catheters &c. ESCHMANN BROS. & WALSH Ltd. Aug. 18, 1965 [Sept. 1, 1964], No. 35742/64. Heading ASR. [Also in Division F2] Surgical tubing such as catheters, trachestomy tubes and cuffs, and armoured tubes are provided with a valve for controlling the inflation of the inflatable balloon which holds the tubing in place. As shown, an inflation tube 3 is provided with a resilient plug held in place by a turneddown portion 2. The plug has a blind bore 1 the end 4 of which is provided with one or more slits 5. The slits are normally closed but may be opened by pressure exerted in the bore by a syringe. The slits may also allow the passage of a hypodermic needle. The tube 3 may be mounted within a drainage tube and may be provided with the balloon at its other end, the inflation of the latter being controlled by the valve. The latter may be of natural or synthetic rubber, p.v.c., rubberplastics copolymers or rubber modified polyethylene.
