A paper clip comprises a substantially cylindrical portion 5 having a longitudinal slot to form cooperating gripping jaws 5a, 5b, a pair of lever members 6 extending from the cylindrical portion to form finger grips, the cylindrical portion and lever members being formed in one single piece from a synthetic plastics material. As shown, a detachable jaw shoe 7 is provided along each edge of the slot and is formed with a serrated edge.
