Catheter intended to be introduced into a body channel
Abstract
Abstract The present invention concerns a catheter intended to be introduced into a body channel, comprising a tube 4 for guiding an energy-conducting fibre, such as, in particular, an optical fibre, the said tube having, in the vicinity of its distal end, at least one radially deformable structure intended to centre the distal end of the said fibre in the said channel. According to the invention, the said radially deformable structure 6 consists of a bundle of filaments 7 surrounding the said fibre 4 whose controlled variation of curvature transmits the radial deformation of the said structure 6, and the distal end of the said bundle of filaments 7 is designed to form a window 8 facing the distal end 4a of the said fibre 4. The invention applies to the examination and/or the destruction or the reduction of obstacles within a body channel, in particular a blood vessel.
