Stairway adjustable on site - has treads pinned to pair of string boards to define folding parallelogram frame
Abstract
Abstract The stairway has plank treads pinned between stringboards of a double parallel joist construction. The assembled stairway thus acts as a folding parallelogram frame and adjusts to different inclinations on site. The treads may be built up from three joists of identical cross-section of identical length and with their adjacent ends housed in pressed metal spiked 'U' section shoes. Two pins which may be formed by bolts are attached to the shoes to form an axial extension of each end of each of the outer tread-joists. The pins traverse holes in the respective joists forming the string board.
