Endoscope for surgical use - has fibre optics inside flexible sheath which is orientated using internal wires and operated from external control
Abstract
Abstract The endoscope is for surgical use and has a flexible sheath controlled externally to orientate the head. Light is transmitted, and the image returned, by fibre optics. The sheath comprises a number of rings (11, 12) joined together by a pivot (10) each side, lugs (12a, b) being provided in the longitudinal axis. The viewing head (20, 21) is attached by means of a ferrule and the sheath has a flexible external liner (19). Fine wires (13, 14) run longitudinally inside the sheath, being positioned 180 deg. apart and at 90 deg. to the ring pivots. One end of each is attached (13a, 14a) to the ferrule (18), their other ends entering the control head.
